Bio From All Music Guide
When Wu-Tang man Ghostface Killah dropped The Pretty Toney Album in April of 2004 there were a bunch of street-level mixtapes sneaking out with all the leftovers Def Jam thought unworthy. The outtakes hinted at a much tougher, wilder album than Pretty Toney was, and the mixtapes became the hot topic. Lost tracks like "Guerilla Hood," "The Drummer," "Smith Brothers," and "Paychecks" got their above-ground release in August of 2004 when Ghostface presented 718, the first full-length from Theodore Unit. A slight "answer crew" to 50 Cent's G-Unit, Theodore Unit includes Cappadonna, Kryme Life, Trife Da God (often just Trife), Wigs, Du-Lilz, and Solomon Childs along with leader and main rhyme contributor Ghostface. Named after a Brooklyn area code, 718 presented Theodore Unit as a loosely structured group with Ghostface and Trife contributing the most. Even if most of Ghostface's tracks weren't recorded with Theodore Unit in mind, the album hung together nicely and Ghostface had the Pretty Toney-snubbing hip-hop underground back in his corner. - David Jeffries
