Originally, its members included Xzibit (host of MTV's series Pimp My Ride), Phil Da Agony, Mitchy Slick, and Krondon. In late 2006, Xzibit left the group just before they signed to Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Records, because of contract conflicts with his solo distribution deal with Sony. Xzibit has been featured on several songs with the group since he left. The extended Strong Arm Steady family includes West Coast artists such as Self Scientific (Chace Infinite & DJ Khalil), Planet Asia, DJ Truly OdD and Self Allah.

Strong Arm Steady is currently produced by Da Riffs, Will Blast, Planet Asia, Phil Da Agony and DJ Khalil.

Strong Arm Steady has focused mostly on independent mixtapes, as well as collaborations with more established artists. In this sense, Strong Arm Steady and its independent members have released numerous mixtapes; collaborated with G-Unit, the Cali Agents, and others; and have made several appearances on Talib Kweli's "Right About Now" and "Beautiful Struggle" mixtapes. Strong Arm Steady was also featured on the song Money Don't Make U Rich from Hi-Tek's 2006 album Hi-Technology²: The Chip.

Slick grew up in the Lincoln Park community of the Encanto neighborhoods in Southeast San Diego. He lived briefly in Lubbock, Texas, and had attended college in Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas. Aside from his status as an established West Coast underground hip hop solo artist, he is also well-known as one-third of West Coast hip hop super-group Strong Arm Steady.

Slick's first solo album was released in 2001 and was titled Triggeration Station. He also put out a few mixtapes with Krondon, Planet Asia and other West Coast artists, after which Krondon got Xzibit, Phil Da Agony and Mitchy Slick to join Strong Arm Steady. He was featured with Strong Arm Steady on Xzibit's 2004 album Weapons Of Mass Destruction.

Since then Slick has released three more solo albums, a collaborative album with Bay Area rapper Messy Marv titled Messy Slick, and Strong Arm Steady's debut album Deep Hearted, which was released in 2007. He is currently working with Strong Arm Steady on the release of their next album titled Arms & Hammers, as well as his own next solo effort titled 48 Hours on Gang Street.

Slick is CEO of Wrongkind Records, based in southeast San Diego, and is also signed with Talib Kweli's Blacksmith Records label with Strong Arm Steady.
