Melvin Calhoun Jr., better known by his stage name Kutt Calhoun, is an American rapper from Kansas City, Missouri. His second album, Feature Presentation, debuted at #60 on the Billboard "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" chart in its first week of release.

In his younger years, Kutt split time living with his mother and his sister. It was while at a local YMCA, during the summer between grades 8th & 9th, that Kutt first realized that he had what it took to rap. His home life drove him to the streets, and it was by the age of 16 that Kutt was supporting himself by the sale of drugs.

In 1996, while in St. Joseph, Missouri, Kutt Calhoun was shot once in his back. The bullet ricocheted off of his pelvis, resulting in a surgery which saw doctors go in through his stomach to remove the projectile. With 18 staples in his stomach after the surgery, Kutt was left with a new outlook on things, viewing the shooting as his wake-up call. He would leave the life of dealing drugs behind as he now refocused on his rapping.

However, several years later in 1999, Kutt would be shot again. This time, Kutt was shot by someone he thought to be his best friend at the time. The two had a small fight just prior, but the friend would go to his house and grab a gun. Kutt stood there, not believing his friend would shoot him, however he would pull the trigger. After the friend opened fire, Kutt would then proceed to run away and be shot a few more times. Between the 1996 & 1999 shooting, Kutt has been shot a total of four times.

Cory Lark & Derek Miller, two local businessmen, would discover Kutt's talent and would give him what he needed to take the next step forward. They got him into the studio, and before long, Kutt was spending every chance he could in the studio.

Kutt, now spending his time recording, led to him working with producer IcyRoc Kraven, who also worked for fellow hometown rapper Tech N9ne. Kutt, a long time fan of Tech N9ne's music, would often rap when Tech would come around the producers studio, trying to make a good impression on the other rapper. However it was one day when Kutt Calhoun was recording a song titled "Deeper" that he really caught the attention of Tech N9ne. Tech would ask if he had a hook for the song, which Kutt responded that he did and would then sing the hook on the spot. Tech liked it and suggested that Kutt allow him to record the hook for him. Kutt, being a fan, would jump at the chance for Tech to record something for his album.

A few weeks later, the two would run into each other again and Tech would stop him to ask if Kutt was familiar with his music and if he would be interested in performing a few shows with him. Kutt would once again jump at the chance to work with Tech, and Kutt would go on to perform as Tech's hype man at that years Spirit Fest in Kansas City, the first time Kutt had performed for a crown. Kutt would remain a regular hype man for Tech throughout the years from that point, going on several national and international tours with him.

Kutt Calhoun would eventually sign with Strange Music, the label co-owned by Tech N9ne. Kutt Calhoun would appear on Tech N9ne's 2002 release, Absolute Power, featuring on "Bianca's And Beatrice's" as well as "Freaky Lil' Things" & "Hydro" from the bonus DVD. He would also be seen in concert footage on the DVD. Kutt Calhoun would later make a cameo appearance in the video for the album's second single, "Imma Tell."

Kutt would record and release his debut album, B.L.E.V.E. (standing for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion), on August 10, 2004. The album features several appearances by the man he had performed hype duties for, Tech N9ne, as well as other local rappers, Krizz Kaliko, BG Bulletwound and fellow label mates Skatterman & Snug Brim. The album didn't perform well on the charts, only making an appearance on Billboard's "Top Heatseekers (West North Central)" chart.

Kutt Calhoun came up with the idea of doing the Flamez Mixtape in 2004, he had just gotten through doing some work with rapper Grant Rice for Rice's own Mixtape. Kutt started recording for the project in early 2004, around May, with Eric Summers at his studio apartment. Calhoun recorded a few tracks for the project, but he quickly ran into troubles with the project.

Travis O'Guin, CEO of Strange Music, would inform Kutt to stop work on the project because Kutt had a release coming out on Strange Music later in the year. Kutt was informed that recording and releasing a project that close to his album release on Strange (August 2004) would be a breach of contract. Kutt Calhoun and Travis O'Guin would argue on the subject, however Kutt would consead and discontinue work on the project.

Kutt wanted to pick the project back up after having to put it on hold due to contractual reasons, but after the release of his album, he and other Strange Music artists went out on tour which made it a hard task to accomplish. However in 2005, Kutt was able to attempt finishing the project. He wouldn't return to Eric Summers, but would instead begin working with Matt Freix on the project. Kutt would then record several more tracks for the project at Freix's house.

2006 would come around and he would begin putting the finishing touches on the project, though he would once again find himself on the road touring. Kutt would then take the project to Travis O'Guin & Tech N9ne, President & Vice President of Strange Music, asking them about putting the project out. Both liked the project, however would tell Kutt to hold on a little longer on putting out the project. The reason this request was made is because it was at the time several DJs began getting in trouble for their mixtapes.

Kutt would listen to their advice on waiting to hopefully avoid finding himself on the radar like the DJs. He would continue waiting until 2007 came around and he finally decided that Travis & Tech were busy and he would just continue on the project himself. He would once again return to Matt Freix to continue the last stretch or work on the project. While Kutt was ready to release it in late 2006, he put some last minute touches on it in early 2007, finalizing it around May of that year, three years after work first began.

On September 18, 2007, after three years of delays due to touring and contract issues, Kutt finally released the project himself.

After a long hiatus for most of its artists, Strange Music would find a new distribution deal in 2006, and thus a schedule of releases was mapped out. Summer 2007 was originally the projected release time for his second album, Feature Presentation. Strange Music would see a delay in their release schedule however, and Kutt Calhoun would instead record and release the album on October 7, 2008. The album saw features from his label mates Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko and Skatterman & Snug Brim once again, though it also featured several other local rappers such as The Popper, E-Skool, Paul Mussan and BG Bulletwound. The second album performed better on the charts than his debut, reaching #60 on Billboard's "Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums" as well as charting #19 on the "Top Heatseekers" chart. A music video was shot for the song "Bunk Rock Bitch," and the video was release by the Record Label through their YouTube account on January 15, 2009. The video features fellow label mates Tech N9ne and Krizz Kaliko.
