Bio From AllMusic.Com
If Boyz II Men are portrayed as a clean-cut, wholesome R&B vocal group, then Jodeci's wild, sexual, bad-boy image represents the other side of the coin. Made up of two sets of brothers, the group's name is a consolidation of three members' aliases: "JoJo" Hailey, Donald "DeVante Swing" DeGrate, and Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey; the group also includes Dalvin DeGrate. Natives of Charlotte, NC, all four members toured the South as young boys singing gospel music, even recording albums; both families belonged to the Pentecostal church, and the DeGrates' father was a minister. The boys were able to hear each other's gospel songs played on the radio, and eventually were introduced through girlfriends as teenagers. However, when they did meet, K-Ci was with a girl Dalvin had been dating, and a fight nearly broke out. The Hailey brothers and DeVante started hanging out together, partying and talking about making R&B records together, coming up with the name Jodeci at this time.

At age 16, DeVante ran away to Minneapolis to get a job in Prince's organization, but was refused. He returned to Charlotte, where he wrote a song and recorded JoJo singing it. The two planned on going to New York to shop the demo around by themselves, but both K-Ci and Dalvin decided to tag along at the last minute. By the time they got to New York, they had demo recordings of 29 songs, which they brought to the offices of Uptown Entertainment. They were almost rejected, but rapper Heavy D overheard the tape and talked Uptown president Andre Harrell into hearing the group. Harrell was impressed, and just like that, Jodeci signed a recording contract. In 1991, they recorded Forever My Lady, which featured the gold single "Come & Talk To Me" and went on to sell over three million copies. A minor feud resulted over the band's follow-up album, Diary Of A Mad Band; Jodeci, unhappy with their treatment by Uptown, flirted with the idea of leaving for Dr. Dre's Death Row Records, which resulted in almost zero promotion for their new album. It didn't matter much, as Diary went platinum. The group's troubles got worse in 1993; DeVante and K-Ci were involved in an incident with a woman K-Ci met at a club and brought back to DeVante's apartment. The woman filed charges against the two, saying that K-Ci had threatened her and fondled her breast, while DeVante pointed a gun at her. Both pleaded guilty, but that wasn't all; shortly afterwards, DeVante's house was robbed of over 160,000 dollars in jewelry and clothes as the singer was held with guns in his mouth and at the back of his head.

Jodeci's third album, The Show, The After Party, The Hotel, was released in the summer of 1995. DeVante also was afforded the opportunity to work with Al Green, one of his idols, writing and producing the song "Could This Be the Love." — Steve Huey

DeVanté's Bio From AllMusic.Com
Devante Swing was originally regarded as just another member of neo-R&B act Jodeci until he began branching out into production in the early '90s, first with Jodeci and later with albums by Montell Jordan, K-Ci Hailey, and the harder-edged Death Row-era 2Pac. — Steve Kurutz

K-Ci & JoJo's Bio From AllMusic.Com
Cedric and Joel Hailey comprise the romantic R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, who were one of two pairs of brothers that made up the chart-topping '90s group Jodeci. The Haileys grew up singing in church choirs in Charlotte, NC, and toured the South with their father's gospel group. When they met the DeGrate brothers, Dalvin and "DeVante Swing," they decided to switch to secular music and formed Jodeci. After signing with Uptown, the quartet released three platinum albums over 1991-1995, with DeVante Swing writing and producing the vast majority of the material. The first rumblings of independence came when K-Ci recorded a solo single, a cover of Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now," for the soundtrack of the 1994 film Jason's Lyric. In 1996, a year after Jodeci's third album The Show, The After Party, The Hotel, K-Ci & JoJo officially teamed up to record "How Could You" for the soundtrack of the Damon Wayans/Adam Sandler comedy Bulletproof; they also supplied backing vocals on 2Pac's smash "How Do U Want It."The brothers made their side project into a full-fledged collaboration with the release of their debut album, Love Always, in 1997. The lead single "You Bring Me Up" was a Top Ten R&B hit, and the follow-up "Last Night's Letter" was also successful. But the single that really broke them big was the sweet ballad "All My Life," which went all the way to number one on both the pop and R&B charts in early 1998. Love Always went on to sell over four-million copies, and Jodeci went on an unofficial, indefinite hiatus (though they never broke up). K-Ci & JoJo assembled a follow-up album, It's Real, which stuck closely to the sound of its predecessor. It was another Top Ten, platinum-selling hit, and produced another smash single in "Tell Me It's Real," which topped out at number two on both the pop and R&B charts. The Haileys celebrated ten years in the recording industry with 2000's X, their third straight platinum album, which spun off the near-Top Ten pop hit "Crazy."Shortly after the release of X, K-Ci & JoJo were invited to perform at the KIIS-FM Jingle Ball 2000 concert in Los Angeles. Despite the promoters' assurances that the show was safe for families, K-Ci allegedly fondled and exposed his erect penis during their performance, and was charged with indecent exposure and lewd conduct based on videotape evidence. He pleaded no contest and was fined and placed on probation. The duo's prolific recording pace subsequently slowed a bit, during which time they worked on material for a long-rumored Jodeci reunion album. They also released their fourth album, Emotional, in late 2002, but initial sales returns failed to duplicate the success of its predecessors. — Steve Huey

Mr. Dalvin's Bio From AllMusic.Com
The son of a minister, Dalvin DeGrate was raised with his brother older Donald in Charlotte, NC. He was performing by the age of two and at nine was drumming in his father's gospel group, the DeGrate Delegation. The DeGrate brothers met brothers Joel and Cedric Halley, and formed the vocal group Jodeci. Dalvin DeGrate, who was the group's rapper, adopted the nickname "Mr. Dalvin"; Donald DeGrate "DeVante Swing"; Joel Halley "JoJo"; and Cedric Halley "K-Ci." They moved to New York and signed to Uptown Entertainment, releasing their debut album, Forever My Lady, in 1991. It topped the R&B charts, went multi-platinum, and spawned three #1 R&B hits: "Stay," "Come & Talk To Me," and the title song. 1994's Diary Of A Mad Band also hit the top of the R&B charts and went multi-platinum, with "Cry for You" becoming a #1 R&B hit. 1995's The Show, The After Party, The Hotel was slightly less successful, but it still sold over a million copies and contained three R&B Top 10 hits. Jodeci broke up, with the Halley brothers recording successfully as K-Ci & JoJo. The DeGrate brothers were slower off the mark, but in April 2000, Dalvin DeGrate released a solo album, Met.A.Mor.Phic, on which his brother DeVante served as one of the producers. On the album, he turned to singing. — William Ruhlmann

Jodeci (DeVante, K-Ci, Mr. Dalvin & JoJo)
Comments: Jodeci, who got their name from their names ((Jo)Jo, (De)vante, & K-(Ci). With Mr. Dalvin being excluded. I guess "Mr. Jodeci" was out. I've read that the "De" was for Devane & Dalvin's surname, "DeGrate." ), is one of my all-time favorite R&B groups. The other of course being The Temptations. My mom actually got me their first album on tape for my birthday, 'cause she liked K-Ci. She later decided she didn't like the album because she didn't like "Play Thang". 1995 was when their last album came out & I'm still "Feenin'" for another Jodeci album. The solo/duo shit just doesn't cut it. It's not the same. - D

OK, Maybe 2002? Alright, How about 2003? Goddamn it. Now it's 2004, just put it out. Please!?!??! It's 2005. By the way, the Greatest Hits doesn't fuckin' count. It's now 2006 and this keeps getting longer. That's enough time for up to five albums or at least three at Jodeci's pace (when they were actually putting out albums). 2007 now and I'm Still Waiting like Jodeci for...Jodeci. Hey, it's 2008. Anyone, anyone... Holy Douchebags, it's 2009!!! It's been 8 years since the ad and 13 since the last album.
