Comments: "Sweet Liberty Johnson" is one of my favorite tracks from Baby Talk. It's more twisted than funny and that makes it funny. For the "Dick Balzac Mix" I enlisted my father, who has been playing guitar since he was just a wee tot, to play guitar on the track for me. I gave him a CD with a few a cappella's, which also included "Mr. Cannibal." "Sweet Liberty Johnson" was the one we chose to tackle first. Our first problem was finding time to fit into each other's schedule to work on the song. Our second problem was we come from very different musical backgrounds. My dad came up on Rock 'N' Roll, while I'm a Hip-Hop baby. Of course the song has more of a Soul/R&B feel than a Hip-Hop feel. He just flat-out told me he couldn't do what I wanted. So we had to start from scratch. We worked on it for an hour or so one afternoon. We played around with it and did a little re-write. He came up with a rough little instrumental and we made a little demo. We planned to revisit it and polish it and make it a masterpiece. Unfortunately, that was one of, if not the, last time my father ever played his guitar. Not long after that we found out he had lung cancer and within four months of that he was dead, December 18, 2009 11:25 P.M. The Hospice, she was one of the original Spice Girls, nurse told us to note the time and I don't think I'll ever forget. So what you get is a rough version of "Sweet Liberty Johnson" with which I am not completely satisfied, but that's the best it's gonna get. I went back and tried to work on it a little bit, but what the fuck can I do? For the other versions I just built a couple beats around the original a cappella.
I just had all these versions of "Sweet Liberty Johnson," which has become a "special" song to me and I wanted to release them. They won't all be on mixtapes, probably just the two listed above. As far as aesthetics go, I think the "Psychodelic Mix" is my favorite. It's really simple and basic, but I like that. I added in the other tracks just to break up the monotony of "Sweet Liberty Johnson" over and over. It's a single, it's not really meant to be played over and over, but more as a way to release different versions of the song and hopefully inspire those who haven't yet to try a little Baby Talk.
"Mr. Cannibal" is kind of a retarded song, but hopefully you'll find it stupid-funny more than just stupid. It's also a song that can be interpreted to be kind of mean. It's not intended to be mean to anyone, so don't be too hurt and offended, it's only a joke or two or three. "Parking Garage" is one of my favorite comedy songs I've ever done. I really like the way it came out. I included the radio version here, instead of the uncensored version that appears on Baby Talk, because I made it. Sometimes the censored versions are funnier than the regular versions. Like the radio version of "Sank Tittie" from Baby Talk or "Gangsta" from Bees Knees Grow On Trees Or My Penis Is In Your Eye, as I added in sound effects as place holders when I say "fuck." But that's more random humor, and my special mocking of censorship in general, as I detest censorship, as opposed to the carefully constructed lyrics of the official versions. For "Parking Garage" I wrote and recorded new lyrics, which are kind of sort of ridiculous. There are some places you won't even know it's been censored and some places that just make a total mockery of the censoring process.
As usual all the covers were done by ThugRadioSmurf, who is not really a smurf, but a human person with a variety of clothing. She even lives in a house as opposed to a mushroom. Learn more at MySpace.Com/ThugRadioSmurf. - D (3:48 PM 4/26/2010)
