Comments: I hate this album. I find it very disrespectful the way they fuck with Mr. Shakur's music to try to make it pop shit. I consider myself very fortunate to have most of the original recordings and the way they remix all Pac's shit pisses me off. I can understand the need to remix the tracks since so many of 2Pac's recodings are available through bootleggers or the internet and it would be nice to have different versions of the songs if they were remotely tolerable. This is the first time I've listened to an album and really felt like he was gone. On all of his other albums I feel like Pac is right there rappin', you can feel everything he says. On this album I feel like he's a ghost or just a shadow. The pop hooks, weak beats, censoring things he says, re-arranged vocals, replaced guests with people Pac never met, it's bullshit. They made Still I Rise weaker than it should have been, but for the most part it was left intact. There were some beat changes and Tha Outlawz changed some of their parts, but it wasn't completely reworking songs and completely removing the Pac feel. I hope they don't fuck up November's two disc set anywhere near the way they did this one. I bought this muthafuckah the day it came out and I've listened to it four times. I can't even stand to look at it. I still can't believe they could take so many good songs & completely ruin them. Can you say BLASPHEMY? - D
Although he died 5 years ago, the rapper's catalog continues to grow with his 5th posthumous release, a two-disc set of material from the sessions for 1996's The Don Killuminati. At his best, 2Pac elevated gangsta boasts into poetic, sorrow-filled ruminations on thug life. But too often here, postmortem producers dilute his power with garish backup singers and pop hooks. Not to worry: A late-2001 'Package gives them another chance to get it right. B - Evan Serpick (Entertainment Weekly - April 20, 2001)
